Research Shows Workplace Diversity Must Include Buy-in from Whites

In a report issued by the  University of Michigan researchers found that whites felt excluded from Diversity initiatives.  According to Pegine Echevarria, MSW, CSP, (and SHRM member) who is CEO of Team Pegine Inc. and founder of “White Guys Are Diverse Too(TM)!  these results are not surprising.  “We have conducted research over the last ten years and know this is true. Marketing, recruiting campaigns and how diversity has been defined over the years and communicated to the average white male employee that they are not part of the diversity focus – and for some employees it communicated that you are not valued.”

“Without the support of whites, organizations and educational settings will fail to  manage the complexities of diverse workforces and constituencies,” said Jeffrey Sanchez-Burks, an associate professor of management and organizations at Michigan’s Ross School of Business.
