Engaging Employees and Stories of White Guys

Working with Caucasian men and diversity I’ve heard so many personal and amazing stories regarding how they have interacted with others, advocated for others and increased employee engagement for their organization.

I recently came across an interesting book by Duke University called White Men Challenging Racism: 35 Personal Stories.  One of the values of White Guys Are Diverse Too(tm)! is that participants (the program is for white guys and those that work with white guys) get to share many sides of themselves.

Personal stories are  extremely important for people to connect with each other.  Employee engagement requires companies to acknowledge the needs, ideas and unique value each employee brings to the table.  Diversity and inclusion engages everyone, however  often just mentioning diversity can disengage Caucasian men.

We were pleased to be mentioned in one of the five ways to engage men in diversity.

Hearing the stories of men engages their fellow workers. It is important to share where you grew up, your interests and don’t forget to ask others about their story.
